Dr. Murphy is a fully trained Internist and Gastroenterologist. He began his University Studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada where he obtained a BSc in Biology. His medical training began at the University of the West Indies (Mona) where he completed his M.B.B.S and internship (UHWI). Dr. Murphy specialized in Internal Medicine and was granted a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) at the University of the West Indies (Mona). He further specialized in Gastroenterology by completing a three year fellowship in Gastroenterology, Advance Endoscopy (including ERCP) and Functional Bowel Disorders at McMaster University (Hamilton, Canada).

Dr. Murphy is recognized for his special training and patient care using advanced endoscopic therapies including hepatobiliary procedures (ERCP). He was the first and only gastroenterologist to perform endoscopic pancreatic cystogastrostomies at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Dr. Murphy has also been instrumental in promoting advanced endoscopic procedures at the UHWI as well as IMS.

Dr. Murphy is a founding member of Island Medical Specialists. With over a decade of clinical practice experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in both the public and private settings, Dr. Murphy continues to pursue his goal of providing the best gastrointestinal medical care for the people of Jamaica.

In addition to his work at Island Medical Specialists, Dr. Murphy has been an Associate Lecturer at the University of the West Indies for over 16 years and is a past Secretary and sitting President of the Association of West Indian Gastroenterologists.

Dr Murphy is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG).
